Your Student Passport: the ISIC card
The ISIC (International Student Identity Card) is recognized around the world. At VIA Rail, the ISIC is the only student ID card that entitles students 18 years of age or older to a 35% discount off the full adult fare in Comfort class (Economy) and a 10% discount off the full adult fare in all the other classes. The ISIC is the only student ID card recognized by VIA.

You don’t have to purchase your tickets in advance, and there are no service charges! These discounts are available for all trains and all destinations year round. Just present your ISIC wherever VIA tickets are sold.

With a VIA 6 pak, your discount off the full adult fare in Economy and Comfort classes goes up to 50%!

The ISIC also gives you reductions on admission charges to various clubs and museums or for certain cultural activities. Your ISIC will save you money in some restaurants and hotels and entitle you to discounts on a host of products and services in Canada, the United States, and throughout the world.

To obtain an ISIC, you must be a full-time student in a secondary or post-secondary institution, aged 12 or over. When purchasing an ISIC, you must provide a recent passport-size photograph. To substantiate your status as a full-time student, you will also be required to provide one of the following: letter from the registrar bearing the institution’s seal, proof of payment of tuition for full time studies, or class schedule on which your name and full time student status appears.

How Much Does an ISIC cost?
In Canada and the United States, the ISIC costs $16 if you buy it in person, or $17.50 if you order it by mail. GST is included in the price. If you buy the card in Quebec, 7.5% QST will be added. These prices are subject to change without notice.

How to Obtain an ISIC
In Canada, you can obtain an ISIC:

At any Travel CUTS/Voyages Campus travel agency. At the offices of most student associations.

By filling-out an application form and sending it by mail to ISIC Administration.

At most VIA Rail stations, where your card will be issued while you wait. If you are intending to catch a train immediately, allow time for us to process your file. Don't forget your passport-size photograph and your proof of full-time student status.
